In the fall of 2022, Ranger Ready decided to eliminate expiration dates on all packaging. Under EPA regulations, no product with a shelf life greater than three years is required to print expiration dates on its labels. The lot code is printed on the back right next to the barcode.
Picaridin does not technically expire. However, in time the formulation begins to lose its stability. Studies show that this change begins anywhere between 36 and 60 months, depending on the conditions the product is stored under. Products stored in a temperature-controlled environment will remain stable longer than products subjected to extreme heat or cold. It is for this reason that the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization recommend replacing your Picaridin insect repellents every three years. We recommend counting 36 months from the day you received your order.
This change in stability does not affect the efficacy or safety of the product. Rather, it lowers the duration that picaridin will remain effective. Therefore, if one were to apply dated Picaridin repellent the only difference in the experience would be the need to apply more often than the recommended 12 hours. This person will still be protected against mosquitoes, ticks, flies, chiggers, and other biting insects effectively.
